Your waterfront custom home is finally built, and it’s time to move in! Your new neighbors will be excited to meet you. But once you’ve unpacked and started to spread out, you might be itching to find out more about the new community that you are part of now. Whether or not the rest of your neighborhood is made up of custom homes or not, here are some tips for what to do next!

Go for Walks

If your family has a pet dog, then you know how much fun walks can be. They can also be great ways to exercise. One reason to go for walks every day is to take your dog out and acclimate them to their new surroundings. Make friends with everyone nearby who is willing to greet the dog, especially if your dog is friendly. This way, you can put names to faces and start building some relationships with your neighbors. Plus, you’re bound to find plenty of hidden gems you might not have noticed while driving through, such as stores, restaurants, and coffee shops that you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

The next step is to get to know your neighbors. Although you can be proud of your custom home, it doesn’t always have to be the single talking point in your conversations. Start chatting about shared interests and hobbies, or express interest in their routines. It’s all part of being a good neighbor without being too intrusive or off-putting. Don’t be afraid to break the ice! Having awful neighbors can take a toll on your happiness, no matter where you choose to live.

Host a Housewarming Party

Now that you have begun to make some new friends, it’s time to host a housewarming party. From time to time, your community might have block parties that include backyard barbecues, fun games, and cheerful music, especially in the summertime. If you have an HOA overseeing neighborhood policies, check in and see if there are any noise ordinances you need to be aware of – then go and plan your party. You want to show off your home without being obnoxious about it, invite all of your neighbors and ask your family to invite their own guests, as well.
