Unusual Window Designs for Inspiration

Unusual Window Designs for Inspiration

Windows can also be custom; check out these unique window designs for inspiration!

Custom homes are meant to showcase the unique style of those who call them home, and one of the neatest ways to do that is through basic yet effective means. As eyes are the windows to the soul, so windows are the windows into the homeowners’ personality. Therefore, one can take unusual yet stunning window designs for inspiration.

Unique Window Panes

Stained Glass

There is nothing like stained glass to add character to any type of architectural build. Stained glass comes with infinite possibilities, so one can implement any color, pattern, or image one wishes. One usually sees stained glass in a picture, transom, or feature window.

Frosted Glass

Frosted glass is another type of windowpane that adds privacy while still providing adequate natural light. Some windows can even switch between clear and opaque through electricity. These windows are ideal in bathrooms.

Unique Window Shapes

Round or Geometric

Square or rectangular windows are standard, but what about other geometric shapes? If you have a feature window in your home, such as above the kitchen sink, or need just a little extra light in the stairwell, one can experiment with circular, diamond, hexagonal, and other shaped windows designs.

Romanesque

Large or regular windows meant for regular use rather than a feature can still be a feature in themselves. Romanesque windows, also called arched windows, have a rounded top and have dominated classical window designs for centuries.

Gothic

Similar to the Romanesque window is the gothic window, which comes to a point at the top. This style is likewise a classic and can range vastly in size and often contain intricate designs within them.

Windows That Stick Out

Bay Window

Windows that stick out from their 2D surface also add interest. The bay window is a classic, adding just enough room within the house for a window seat or another type of nook. Bay windows often include three or more window panels.

Bow Window

A bow window is a curved panel of windows that wraps around a turret or a tower. It contains many more windows than a bay window and as the name implies, is shaped like a bow.

Garden Style Window

A garden-style window is a window bump out with glass on all sides except the base. This feature window is designed to use as a miniature plant house, a place to put multiple potted plants where they can reach the most sunlight.
