The best reason to build a custom home is that you can bring your dreams to life. Whether it is meant for the master suite or a guest bedroom, having a spectacular view through your window can make the long process worth it. Here is why you should consider the design of bedroom windows for your waterfront custom home.

Bedrooms Need Windows

Every bedroom needs a window. It’s not only for aesthetic reasons, either. It is another way to escape in case of a fire or other emergency. After all, sometimes the door won’t be accessible, so having another way is essential. Follow the minimum guidelines for window design. For instance, it must be at least 5.7 square feet and open up to 24 inches at the very least.

The window also needs to be easy to access. What this means is that it can’t be higher than 44 inches from the floor to the windowsill. It also can’t be less than 24 inches from the floor after it has been finished. The reason why the minimum height rule was established was so that younger children can’t fall out the window by accident. One last thing – the window has to open and close without needing a key or other tool, even if it has a lock on it.

Bedroom Features

Let’s discuss some of the features that your bedroom deserves. Building a custom home involves many decisions and ways to take it to the next level. The square-foot-minimum should be somewhere between 70 and 80 feet. It has to be at least 7 feet wide in every direction, horizontally speaking. There should be two ways out, including one to the outside of the home. The ceiling should be at least 7 feet high, and there should be a heating and cooling element that isn’t a space heater.
