Your garden is one of the most important parts of your home. A garden helps to beautify the exterior of your home, and you can grow your own herbs, fruits, and veggies right in your own yard. Even so, you need to do what you can to protect it against pests.
Improve the Soil
The first thing you need to do is to improve the soil. Pests can wreak havoc on your soil, but wiping them out can make a difference. Plus, you will want to keep an eye out for the effects of soil erosion and make sure that you add beneficial soil creatures to your garden. They’ll help keep your plants happy and healthy and protect them from any pests that do get into your yard.
Choose the Right Plants
You also need to choose the right plants. Familiarize yourself with the garden’s environment. Determine where the shade is, the consistency and dryness of the soil, and how your yard slopes. Find plants that thrive under the right conditions and can resist the effects of pests and diseases.
Be Careful When Watering
You have to be careful when you water. You don’t want to overdo it and drown your garden components but you also don’t want to underserve it and dry out what you’ve got growing. Make sure the water goes down deep enough to reach the roots. Then wait for the surface of the soil to dry before you water again.
Let Some Insects Live
It’s easy to assume that all insects living in your garden are harmful pests. This isn’t always the case. Most of the time, the bugs you find in your garden have some sort of benefit, such as killing and eating mosquitoes. Keep an eye out for good bugs and don’t wipe them out on principle.
