New Home! Your Move-In Day Checklist

New Home! Your Move-In Day Checklist

Moving into a new custom waterfront home takes preparation! Here’s a neat checklist!

The exciting day is approaching when you can move into your brand new, custom, waterfront home! Anticipating this day brings much excitement, but there is plenty of work to do to prepare. Moving is not everyone’s favorite task, but having a handy move-in day checklist can make it much easier. Below are five major tasks to do before the big day.

Moving Company

Your preparation for the move should generally begin at least two months prior. In this time, start looking for a moving company. Research your options and take your time to ensure you are choosing the best one. Avoid last-minute decisions! Once you’ve collected a handful of options, get a quote from your top few and book an appointment at least two weeks in advance.

Sorting

Packing your belongings is the most intensive step of the whole moving process. Thankfully, it can go swiftly with a methodical approach. The first step is to throw out, sell, or donate what you don’t want. This can be as intensive as Swedish death cleaning! In a couple of weeks, you can be ready to sort what you have left.

Packing

As for the packing itself, you can first create a checklist of inventories per room. With a custom waterfront home, you will want to list your inventory according to each room of the new house. Next, take pictures of your belongings and begin to collect free cardboard boxes for moving. Several weeks before move-in day, you can begin packing items like books, figurines, dishware, and other non-everyday things. Several days before the move, one can pack suitcases with what one will need for those last days before and during the move-in.

Address Change

Don’t forget about getting all your address changes squared away! This process can be easy, simple, and take a very short time. Make a list of all these needs: insurance, driver’s license, magazine subscriptions, post office, voting location, etc.

Kids & Pets

When move-in day arrives, have a place for kids and pets to be while you load the truck. If your children are old enough, they can help out too, of course. If you have any questions concerning moving into your custom waterfront home in Maryland, just ask Shore-Line Construction!
