Spring Cleaning Checklist for Waterfront Homes

Spring Cleaning Checklist for Waterfront Homes

Spring cleaning season is nigh! Here’s a handy checklist to make it breeze by.

Spring is here, and that means changing how you maintain your waterfront home in Maryland. If you plan to build a custom home by the water, your home maintenance needs will be simple. Either way, having a spring cleaning list can help you stay on track. Check out this handy spring cleaning checklist for waterfront homes that you can use year after year.

Check the Drainage

Water drainage is one of the most crucial components of your home’s wellbeing. If something goes wrong, it could cause water damage or flooding. One should check the gutters and clean them out if sticks, fall leaves, and seedlings have fallen into it. You also want to keep birds from creating a nest in the gutter. Check to make sure no part of the gutters or downspouts is broken.

Avoid Toxins in the Yard

Keeping our environment clean is also important. One should avoid using toxic chemicals to treat their lawn and landscape as much as possible, as they can leach into the water. If possible, it is better to use natural herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to limit the amount of harsh chemicals that enter Maryland’s nature.

Check the Windows, Doors, & Roof

Over the years, a waterfront house can develop drafts and sustain damages as much as other homes. Check for drafty windows and doors by scanning your hand along the edges to check for a breeze. If there is, one can seal the gaps with caulk. Also, look out for any roof damage after a storm, such as gaps in the flashing.

Check the HVAC System

Your home’s HVAC system helps moderate temperatures amid a breezy, waterfront climate. As the temperatures warm, you’ll soon be switching from heating to cooling. When the time comes, one can reopen the upstairs vents, open the windows while the system is off, and hire out a spring HVAC checkup.

Monitor Humidity

Along with the temperature change, you will also want to monitor your home’s humidity. If your home experiences more humidity than healthy, a dehumidifier will solve the issue and prevent your house from developing toxic mold.

Out with the Old, In with the New

A spring maintenance checklist for waterfront homes isn’t complete without spring cleaning. It’s out with the old and in with the new for clothing, bedding, outdoor furnishings, and decorations.
